Got some health challenges? Or other physical obstacles? How about emotional or relational problems? And let’s not forget your mental well-being. Have you discovered you’re not as young as you used to be? And wouldn’t you like to know why bad things happen to “good” people? Well, I can tell you why. You did it.“Wha?! I did it?!,” you ask incredulously.
Or maybe you don’t because you’re already ahead of me.
Either way, YOU did it.
Yep, you are your own worst enemy. And there have been times when you allowed your emotions to sabotage your actions. And you made decisions you knew were wrong and went through with them anyway.
Believe me I don’t condemn you for it. For a couple of reasons. One, I don’t have the authority to condemn you. And two, it would be somewhat hypocritical of me.
Because I’ve done those kinds of things, too. So has everyone else, whether they admit it or not. Yeah, I’ve been, and continue to be, my own worst enemy. Less than I used to be, thank God.
But here’s the thing. You and I are flawed. And you and I were born into a broken and flawed world. So, you and I are gonna make mistakes and bad choices. Wow, that kinda sounds almost dark and hopeless.
But the silver lining to this dark, gray cloud is that we have a living, loving Creator. In fact, He loves us so much and wants us to live forever. So, He made a Way to be sure that can happen. In spite of all our ongoing worst intentions.
But here’s another “but.”
That kind of living, loving God would never (and does not) make you do the terrible things you do in order to somehow glorify or magnify Himself. Too many Christians (I hope they’re Christians) say everything is part of God’s plan. Everything that happens in this world is under His control because of that plan.
And that’s ignorant at best. And despicable if left unchecked. Because it means anyone who perpetuates that lie is either ignorant of what the Bible actually says, or they just don’t care what it says.
And that ignorance or apathy has eternal consequences. Not only for the perpetrator. But also for the ones they influenced to turn away from God. And I guarantee that when you tell an unbeliever that God is in charge of this world, they’re even more likely to hate Him. And I can’t say I blame them. Because what kind of God would tell us not to do evil that good might come of it and yet instill all the evil in this world?
A god made in man’s image might do that. But not the God of the Bible. No, the responsibility for all the evil in the world is your fault. YOU DID IT. Well, to be fair, you AND every one of the rest of us.
Thankfully, the living, loving Creator of the universe DID make a plan to save us from ourselves. And He made Himself accessible to anyone who’s willing to take responsibility for his or her own actions. To anyone with enough humility to ask Him for help and wisdom.
The Power of His love created you and me. And the sovereignty of His life can sustain you and me forever.
Life IS tangible. It’s the self-realization force that originates God, the uncaused “first cause.” The one who breathed His life into the first man and woman. He is The Alpha and the Omega. He is the first, and…
The Last Word
Keep a bolt of lightning in your brain
And a jar of honey in your heart.
Let love be the last word from your lips
Whether you’re together or apart.
Lightning is your passion over pain.
Honey is your holy hope within.
Send those feelings through your fingertips
And remember, always let love win.
