A few years ago, I wrote about how challenging life can be these days. And I talked about how it leads to so much frustration. So much hurt and hopelessness. Not to mention all the terrible things humans do to earth other. And just as it was back then, it’s still tempting to just complain, gripe, and yell at the sky.
But a yell at the sky is still a whisper in the wind.
Because a loud, frustration-filled gripe or complaint tends to get ignored. Probably rightfully so. Especially since that sort of information is conveyed with whiny voices, rude hand gestures, and less than pleasant face contortions.
If you spend any time on social media (and that’s more of an oxymoron than ever), surely you’ve seen lots of examples of what I’m talking about. And when someone shares one of those frustration-filled rants, most of the replies and comments pile on with more of the same. Until the threads are filled with more yelling at the sky.
I hope you’re not filled with that kind of frustration. Especially since the solution is still so easy to find and access. Believe me, I know most people don’t want a solution. They’d rather yell at the sky, point their IQ fingers upward, and perpetuate the problem. Because they crave attention. Not redemption.
Sure, you’ve got plenty of good reasons for frustration these days. Not the least of which is a government that increasingly takes what you earn in order to buy influence, power, and votes. But even THIS, too, shall pass.
And one day, instead of empty, fruitless words in the sky, there will be a King.
So, how about you change your frame of mind ahead of time? Yeah, do this…
Instead
Don’t try to pray away all the pain.
You could be disappointed, disillusioned, disenchanted.
Don’t ask God to save you from the hurt.
You could live to see that the prayer has not been granted.
Instead…give thanks for all His love.
Instead…be glad for all He’s done.
Our sin could torture us forever.
Instead…He gave His only Son.
Don’t be so quick to ask for an end
To the hard times, rocky roads, and fire and rain.
Don’t cry out for a wonderful sign
And when it doesn’t appear, throw your hands up in vain.
Instead…give thanks for all His love.
Instead…be glad for all He’s done.
Our sin could torture us forever.
Instead…He gave His only Son.
There will be trials…and tribulation,
In every life…in every nation.
You could give up…but bow your head
And thank your loving Lord instead.
