Oh well, what can you do?
When I was much younger, I wrote more songs with more questions in them. It hadn’t occurred to me before. But I was looking at some lyric files, today, and I saw that pattern form in the old lyrics. And the ironic thing is, it wasn’t because I didn’t have the answers. Because many times I actually did. In fact, they were as close as my next breath. So, even as I asked, “what can you do” I wondered if anyone would have the same answers.

If you ever wonder what can you do during challenging times, this might hit a nerve.
There are tons of things you can do during times of doubt and drought. But none of them should include fear, focus on problems, or panic. And even though you might have questions, look for solutions. Ironically they most often appear when you stop trying to protect yourself and start serving others. And I’ll leave it there for you to think about.
Maybe you’re enjoying some quiet, thinking time right now. Or maybe you enjoy a good introspective set of lyrics. If so, here are the words to a song I wrote back in 1988. FunderCast subscribers and anyone who tunes in to my website can have the song delivered right to your player or inbox. Either way, here’s…
What Can I Do?
I want to dream, but I can’t even get to sleep
And I want to run, but I’ve got promises to keep
I don’t mind the struggle, but I’m tired of the fight
And I don’t want to stand still while the day turns into night
But what can I do?
I’m only one man
I’d love to see peace in this life
But I don’t have a plan
Tell me what can I do?
I’m only one guy
I’d love to see love conquer all and hatred run dry
But what can I do?
Tell me what can I possibly do?
I want to laugh, but I can’t even seem to smile
And I want to win, but I don’t even make the trial
I don’t mind the darkness, but I do prefer the light
And I don’t want to stand still while the day turns into night
