Is it too much trouble to ask politicians to just shut up and stop tryin’ to fix things that ain’t broke? Yeah, some of my Texas slang grammar is rearin’ up. But dagnabit, I’m serious. Can’t they just shut up?!
And is it too much trouble for them to just leave us alone?
It’s like they just ain’t happy ‘less they’re meddlin’ in your bizness.
And it’s insane for them to think they know what’s best for you better than you do. But these days, like never before, they have the audacity, the unmitigated gall, to throw money (your money) at every social issue imaginable.
And that’s not just questionable. Or even just wrong. It’s theft. It’s tyrannical. And it’s even murderous.
From the most innocent human beings, in their mothers’ wombs, to the oldest citizens, politicians and their so-called “policies” work to control your life. AND death.
This is a dire time in the world. Because what was once the freest nation on Earth is now bowing down to the dark intentions of the current ruler of this world. Yeah, I said dark intentions. Because it should be painfully obvious the current ruler of this world is not your living, loving Creator.
No, Jesus is not in charge. Not of this world. I hope you let Him be in charge of your life. But it’s crucial to understand how He’s allowing another to rule this world. For a time.
And THAT ruler is having a heyday.
But hey…I hope he enjoys his short “day.” And I hope those who give in to him enjoy theirs. Because their time is infinitesimal. And this world WILL be redeemed. Hallelujah! OK, enough with the rant.
This talk about “trouble” reminded me…
I wrote a song, back in 1987, called “If It Ain’t Too Much Trouble,” during one of my road trips to Albuquerque, New Mexico.
It has nothin’ to do with politics. But it has that same essence of exasperation.
I played music 5 or 6 nights a week, and on my night off between weeks I stayed in my room most of the time writing new songs. The weather was uncooperative. So, it was a perfect time to stay inside, get out the keyboard, drum machine, and notebook (paper because laptops and iPhones didn’t exist yet).
I’d had this tune in my head, and I jotted down ideas for some lyrics. I’ve always been one of those writers who edits as he goes. But I like that way (so, shut up, internet copywriters).
Anyway…
Line by line, I formulated this idea about a fictional girl (made up from a conglomeration of multiple acquaintances). She was aloof. And she couldn’t be bothered to build a lasting or meaningful relationship. So, I came up with the line…
If It Ain’t Too Much Trouble
Time after time I get awful hungry
For the touch and the feel of a girl
Who could take me all over the world
Just by smiling and holding my hand.
Time after time I keep blowing my chances
And making a fool of myself.
And I know I could sure use some help
‘Cause it’s all I can stand.
If it ain’t too much, trouble could we meet somewhere?
It it ain’t too much trouble, could we clear the air?
And if it ain’t too much trouble, could we break the ice?
If it ain’t too much trouble, I’ll be twice as nice.
And I’d love to share your life, if it ain’t too much trouble
Time after time I believe I’ve found her,
And I run to embrace her again.
But I wind up back where I have been,
In a dream where the lonely hearts thrive.
Time after time I feel sure I can win
In this battle of mind over heart.
But each time I go back to the start
And I barely survive.
Chorus…inst…repeat chorus to end
