Just in case you haven’t noticed, the world is full of mean people and bad stuff. Nations are at war…all the time. Political parties are in constant power struggles. Murder is consistently at epidemic levels. And man-made pandemics are all the rage. But, even with all this dark-hearted dreariness, my cup runs over. And my cup runs over because all this will go away.
Yeah, it’s temporary. Sure, it doesn’t feel all that temporary when the really bad stuff is happening. But one day we’ll all look back on this and see how it all went by in the blink of an eye.
And I have something that buffers the suffering. Something that stands strong and true. And something that rejoices in the truth, which helps me rejoice. It bears all things, so all things are more bearable. I’m talking about something that hopes all things and endures all things. And it helps me hope and endure.
What is this that’s able to do such wonderful things?
Love.
But not the typical love you’ll find floating around the world. Not that here-today-gone-tomorrow love. And not the confused human love based solely on feelings. No, this is REAL abiding, everlasting love.
Have you ever watched the old movie, “The Bishop’s Wife” with Cary Grant, Loretta Young, and David Niven? We watch it every Christmas. Not because it’s good Biblical teaching. Far from it. But because it just hearkens back to a more loving time in America.
But there’s a scene, in the movie, where Cary Grant’s character (he’s an angel) pours some brandy into a professor’s glass. And as the professor talks and drinks, Cary’s character magically refills his glass with brandy. And no matter how much he drinks, the professor only feels the good part and not the drunk part.
The love I’m talking about is like that. You and I can’t use it up. And we never will. Because it’s only found…
In The House of the Lord
Father God,Ӭ You never leave me You never forsake me.
And Your Word…”¨Gives me courage to go where you take me.
You are with me through each dire upheaval.
With You in me I will fear no evil.
As I walk through the shadow of death…
I will sing till my very last breath…
Green pastures, still waters…
Goodness and mercy for your sons and daughters…
True love dwells in the House of the LORD.
Each person, each nation…
Can be renewed through Your sweet restoration…
True love dwells in the House of the LORD.
Father God,ӬYou made a Way for my total redemption.
I believe…”¨Jesus died to provide that exemption.
He’s my shepherd through thorns and through clover.
He’s my new wine, and my cup runs over.
As I walk through the shadow of death…
I will sing till my very last breath”
Chorus
