You don’t have to look very long to find mean people. In fact, just say something, on a social media channel, like “There’s only way to live forever,” and watch the meanness flood the threads.
But mean people don’t phase me.
And they shouldn’t phase you either. And I know most everyone who reads my posts or listens to my podcasts already knows this.
But maybe somebody said something extra mean to you lately. And maybe you got your feelings hurt because you know you didn’t deserve to be treated that way. If that’s the case, let me put this out there for you as gently as I can.
Put on your “Sticks-and-stones-may-break-my-bones-but-words-will-never-harm-me” overalls. And move on. With a great big smile on your face. Because, just as I wrote in one of my songs, “And when many still may hate me, give me Your love and I’ll always rejoice.”
And here’s something I wrote for kids a few years ago:
If you think the world is a pretty mean place, you’re right. And if you think the whole world is against you, even that might be true. But no matter how bad it is, or how bad it gets, it doesn’t compare to what you’ll get to see one day. God put some good things in you. His Word and His Spirit. And one day the whole world will see those good things in you. They might not like it, but they’ll sure get to see ’em.
You got the glory in you,
The glory of God.
If people don’t understand,
You just smile and nod…
And trust the good things in you,
The Spirit, The Word.
And you can know that it’s true,
This good news you heard.
One day, when Jesus comes back,
To make things all right,
He’ll lift you high up because
You walked in His Light.
By the way, I’ve written tons of rhymes, songs, and stories with the enduring message of hope. You can find most of it at this little-known online store. Unique Christmas gifts. Just sayin’
