What can living water do?
Imagine, for a moment, you’ve just crossed a long, hot, dry desert. You’ve probably watched a movie about the old West where some cowboys found themselves in that predicament. Right? OK, put yourself in their place. Throat parched. Lips cracked. Face sunburned. And arms practically scorched. But somehow you make it across. Crawling the last mile, but you make it. And you fall, face down, in the sand. Almost within arms reach of a small oasis. Then, suddenly, a blurry, shadowed figure lifts you up and offers you…living water.
Huh?

What kind of water…lives?
I don’t really remember the first time I read the passage in John where Jesus talks about living water. But I do remember how vivid it was (and IS) to me. And there’s a passage in Isaiah with a a great word-picture description of it: “For I will pour water on him who is thirsty, And floods on the dry ground; I will pour My Spirit on your descendants, And My blessing on your offspring; They will spring up among the grass, Like willows by the watercourses.”
When you wanna grow some plants or livestock…or you wanna wet your whistle…get a cool glass of water. But when you wanna feel like a bright sparkling fountain is flowing up in you, ask Jesus to give you His water.
Living Water
No poetic words of wit
Ever could accomplish it.
No fine brushstrokes ever could
Paint a picture half as good.
No books published have, or will,
Ever totally fulfill
All your thirsty heart desires.
Living water quenches fires.
And no song can quite compare
With what’s waiting for us there.
No creation ever can
Manifest a better plan
For repairing broken souls
As decisions take their tolls.
Grace completes what law requires.
Living water quenches fires.
How can water live, you ask.
Well, it takes a special flask.
One made from untarnished clay
Glazed in such a perfect way
As to never fall or break,
Made for someone else’s sake.
Holding flames your mind acquires,
Living water quenches fires.
