Jeremiah Thomas – abolitionist, fighter, teenager
As far as I can tell, Jeremiah Thomas is about 16 as I write and record this. During those few years, he has been a courageous voice for unborn children. He has understood that every human being is created in the image and likeness of God. And so every human being, from the moment of conception, has the God-given right to life. Jeremiah has been on the front lines of standing up for that right. But now Jeremiah finds himself in the ultimate battle for his own life. Up until a couple of weeks ago I had never heard of Jeremiah Thomas, his family, or his battle with cancer. But a friend of mine on Facebook sent me a message with a link to their story. My friend wondered if I might be able to write some sort of battle song for Jeremiah. I told him I’d look into the story and see what I could come up with. Of course, once I read about the Thomas’ and how Jeremiah was such an UP young guy, I decided I had to try. It didn’t come to me right away, but finally I wrote
Jeremiah’s Prayer – based on a prayer Jeremiah shared online.
I’ll share the lyrics here, along with the link where you can donate to the Thomas family fund. Every dollar you’re able to give will help them overcome the mountain of expenses they incurred in Jeremiah’s battle with cancer.
Jeremiah’s Prayer
I don’t deserve your healing Lord.
But you deserve my praise.
Your great name and your Word
Will lift me up and fill my days.
Oh Lord, please give me strength
So I can fight this battle well”
And courage even satan will
Remember down in hell.
You’re the breath in my lungs.
An you’re the song upon my tongue.
You’re the source of life no doubters can erase.
And through sickness and health,
Lord I consecrate myself
And I just can’t wait to see you face to face.
No one deserves your healing Lord.
But you deserve our praise.
Your great name and your Word
Will lift us up and fill our days,
If we will look to you for strength
And courage to declare
The love and Truth about You
Found in Jeremiah’s prayer.
