They might not be household names you’ve ever heard. But if you’ve lived more than a couple of decades, you’ve probably heard them. And is it just me, or do those old Motown songs still make you wanna dance, too? Yeah, just play the first few bars of “I’ll Be There” and watch out. Feet don’t fail me now. And that’s just one of the awesome songs by Lamont Dozier and Brian and Eddie Holland.

And is it just me, ’cause I gotta say You Keep Me Hangin’ On
OK, I’ll stop with the musical puns. But it’s amazing how many of the best known Motown hits were written by that songwriting trio. 25 number 1 hits. Wow. Not many can say that.
And that brings me to why I’m bringing it up today. Because The Supremes recorded a song by Dozier and the Holland brothers called “I Hear A Symphony.” And on this day (November 20), back in 1965, it went to number 1 on the U.S. charts. Coincidentally, they had another number 1 hit with “You Keep Me Hangin On” exactly a year later.
But, for now, this is…
I Hear A Symphony
You’ve given me a true love
And every day I thank you, love
For a feeling that’s so new
So inviting, so exciting
Whenever you’re near, I hear a symphony
A tender melody
Pulling me closer, closer to your arms
Then suddenly (I hear a symphony)
Ooh, your lips are touching mine
A feeling so divine
Till I leave the past behind
I’m lost in a world
Made for you and me
Whenever you’re near, I hear a symphony
Play sweet and tenderly
Every time your lips meet mine, now, baby, baby, baby
You bring much joy within
Don’t let this feeling end
Let it go on and on and on, now, baby, baby, baby
Those tears that fill my eyes
I cry not for myself
But for those who’ve never felt the joy we felt (baby)
Whenever you’re near, I hear a symphony
Each time you speak to me
I hear a tender rhapsody of love now, baby, baby
As you stand holding me
Whispering how much you care
A thousand violins fill the air, now, baby, baby
Don’t let this moment end
Keep standing close to me
Ooh, so close to me, baby, baby, baby, baby
I hear a symphony
A tender melody
And this is…
Morning Symphony
Listen to the music in the morning.
Open up your windows, let it in.
No violins or brass,
Just flowers, trees, and grass
To greet you as enchanting notes begin.
Listen to the music in the morning
Carried on the wings of bustling birds.
Squirrels that scamper by
And airplanes in the sky
Add to this composition with no words.
Listen to the music in the morning.
Let not your hearts be troubled any way.
Just listen and applaud
The awesome love of God
In every morning and through every day.
