Is Christ Divided
1 Corinthians 1:10-17 Paul asks the people of Corinth “Is Christ divided?” Because he had heard that some of them were saying things like “I am of Paul” or “I am of Apollos” or “I am of Cephas”. So Paul strongly reminded them that they could only be OF one. Jesus.
Why was it so important to Paul that the Corinthians “all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you“? Probably because he knew that division and sectarianism would lead to confusion. And he knew the world would be watching this new Christian faith.
I’m confident that Paul must have thought about how confusion within the followers of Jesus would most certainly lead to confusion by anyone interested in learning about Jesus. It was vital to Paul that the Corinthians understood the message of the Gospel was much more important than keeping all or parts of the law.
And is Christ divided in the message of the Gospel?
No. Because God “so loved the world that He sent His only Son” to die for us. And whosoever believes in His son shall have everlasting life. Wouldn’t you say that message rises far above whether or not you’re baptized? Paul certainly did. And I totally agree with him.
If you’re a Christian, I hope you’ll do all you can to “be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment” with me. God’s own words in John 3:16 speak of love and belief…FOR and IN His Son. When you have those, you have life…abundantly and eternally.
