A week from today. Yeah, next Monday is the big day. So, don’t waste a minute. Because you’ve got presents to buy. Food to buy. Decorations to buy. And A B C and 1,2,3 to buy. Sure, good things might come to those who wait. But they come a lot faster to those who don’t.
What kind of good things do you have planned for Christmas this year?
Family get-togethers? Lots of food and presents? Or maybe you’re traveling to visit friends. Whatever your plans, I hope you’re safe, happy, and well through all of it.
And I hope you (and anyone you’ll be with) will take some time to focus on even better things than all the seasonal trimmings. I should say, right now, that I’m not talking to anybody who doesn’t believe in and trust God. Because those people (not you, of course) don’t actually know what’s good for them.
So, they certainly wouldn’t know which things are good and which are even better.
But you do. But that’s why it’s also good to guard your heart and mind.
Paul told some people, in the ancient city of Philippi (in Greece) how to do that. And he used a synonym for the word, focus, which is quite the buzzword in marketing circles these days. Paul’s word was “meditate.” And that just means you think about something deeply and carefully.
And Paul offered a concise list these good things (even better things).
He said to meditate on whatever things are true, noble, just, pure, lovely, of good report, having any virtue, and anything praiseworthy.
Sounds like a tough list to focus on when you’re in the middle of a Christmas crowd at Walmart. Or Costco. Or even Saks Fifth Avenue. Because crowds are notorious for not being true, noble, just, pure, lovely, of good report, having any virtue, and praiseworthy.
But I believe in my heart AND with my mind that the God of Peace will be with you when you focus on the good things Paul recommended. I plan to try to do that this week. How about you?
