Doodles and poodles
Doodles and poodles and noodles. What do they have in common? Well, duh. They all rhyme, of course. But even more than that, they’re all found in one song for kids. And, yeah, that song happens to be one written by your favorite RhymeTender…me.
Doodles and poodles and a certain monkey
Way back in 2001 I wrote and produced some personalized music for kids. And I started selling CD’s (You remember those, right?) on another one of my websites. Then, Elgielene and I went to kids’ stores all around the Denver, Colorado metro area (and up in the mountains) and got our CD’s in several of them.
The first kids’ store to include our CD’s in their inventory was called Monkey Doodles. And they were in a small shopping center in Evergreen, a small town in the foothills of the Rockies.
The owners of the store (and their purchase manager) loved the songs. So, they put our colorful display right up on their front counter. Talk about prime retail real estate! And I don’t know how many CD’s we sold. But it was oodles. People loved the songs. And many customers bought special order CD’s of names we didn’t have yet.
We ended up selling thousands of CD’s through that store, about seven others, and on our website. And one thing I did, to show our appreciation to those stores, was create custom songs with the store names in them. Of course, since Monkey Doodles was first, their song was first.
