Our first Christmas here in Colorado Springs, way back in 2014, was cold and void. It snowed that day. So, we had a white Christmas. And it was beautiful and serene. If you’ve ever spent much time in a place where it snows, you understand the quiet beauty I’m talking about.
Like how the snow cushions and insulates the roads so car tires don’t make so much noise as they pass. And all the little critters seem to cozy up in their nests and caves and beds. So there isn’t the usual chatter, chirping, whistling, and scampering.
So it was cold and void and peaceful and serene that day.
And we enjoyed it a lot. Because it was Christmas day in a “brand new” old house in the shadow of Pike’s Peak. The cold just added to the nostalgic magic of bygone Christmas days. And the “void” was just a lack of busy traffic and noise.
But have you ever noticed how life can be cold and void, too? (Yes, that’s basically a rhetorical question.)
Life can drop frozen flakes of indifference and apathy on your head. And it can be so consistent, sometimes, that it boggles your mind. When it does, what do you do? Grip and complain? Or stay peaceful and serene?
I’m sure there are people in the world who don’t believe in God and yet manage to keep a level head through the challenges of life. They just take it in stride. Because it’s just part of their own “evolution”.
But I’ll wager you this…
Their peace and serenity is superficial.
And here’s the real kicker. Even if it’s genuine and runs to the core of their being, it’s temporary. Because, apart from God, all “happiness” and “success” is temporary. It will die out when the body gives out.
I’ll admit to you I don’t always remain peaceful and serene in the face of adversity. But anytime I fail, I can easily see where I leaned on good ol’ Tony. And Tony can’t hold me up all the time. He gets tired.
God never gets tired. What a gift!
If you already know this, take a couple of minutes to thank Him right now. Thank Him for holding you up. And let Him know you realize He’s doing that as He holds millions of others up at the same time. Yeah, God never gets tired. And He never gets tired of hearing you thank Him in love.
And when you thank Him, see if you feel cold and void. I think you know what my guess is.
Serenity, divinity,
They’re in the holy Trinity.
The love of God can warm the cold and void.
Vitality, reality,
Flow out of God’s triality
