Chasing The Dream
Are you chasing the dream? Or “the fix?”
One morning, about three years ago…or was it three years from now, Ivanto woke up before sunrise to beautiful colors swirling around in his room. They appeared to be encased in glass. There were thousands of these little orbs, and every few seconds one would smash into the wall and burst. And tiny shards of light would dissipate into the air, like fog in sunlight.
Ivanto rubbed his eyes and looked again. But the swirling orbs didn’t disappear. In fact, they had multiplied…and many more of them were crashing into the wall with the same effect.
“What could this be?” he wondered. “Am I still sleeping? Am I dreaming? Surely that’s what it is.”
A voice in the midst of the swirling colors whispered…
“Do you want to see more?”
Ivanto pulled the covers up to the bottom of his nose, but he couldn’t…no, he didn’t dare look away.
“Uh…yes…yes, I do.”
“Well then…hold out your right hand,” the voice commanded. And Ivanto did as he was told.
One of the swirling orbs almost instantly floated over the bed and hovered and rotated just above Ivanto’s outstretched hand.
“Look closely,” the voice whispered.
Ivanto pulled his hand toward his face, and the orb followed. He looked deeply into the crystalline circle and saw a tiny man running. He squinted his eyes, and he could see the man was chasing something. What was it? He couldn’t quite make it out. It seemed to have a beauty and form, but he just couldn’t tell what it was.
“Look deeper,” the voice whispered a bit louder.
And as he did, Ivanto could see the man was him. And the thing he was chasing began to focus and take form. With each second it became more beautiful. Ivanto could feel a sense of joy wash over him. It was all beginning to make sense, and as his joy grew his tiny self dived forward and wrapped both arms around the form.
And the bubble burst…a tiny puff of light crystals floated into Ivanto’s eyes. And he fell back asleep.
When he woke up later that morning, he remembered. He quickly got up, found his note paper, and scribbled down five words. And he kept that piece of paper with him for the rest of his life.
The five words that forever changed his life were…
