Take responsibility and activate civility

Good or bad, most Americans used to take responsibility for the things they did. And some still do. But I don’t see it so much anymore.

People running the country don’t take responsibility. So why should YOU?

Hang on for a sec, and I’ll tell you why. But first a word or two about the top dog knuckleheads in America.

Yeah. Governors, state and federal, senators, and members of state and federal congress love to blame and point their fingers at members of the opposite “party.” But rarely, if ever, will you find even one of them willing to take responsibility for the bad stuff. And there’s bukoo bad stuff.

They love to create a maze of committees for just about anything you can think of. And that makes it super easy for no one person to ever actually take responsibility for anything. Unwise policies continue to bankrupt our country and even destroy lives. But it’s no ONE’s fault. So, here’s the saddest truth hidden in plain site.

All those people who devised all these destructive laws, policies, and side deals, were either elected or appointed by others who were elected.

Elected.

11 years ago I wrote some lyrics about this problem. And I said it’s about taking…

Responsibility

I heard…my sweet dreams shatter…
Blue skies fell around my feet.
My plans…they just don’t matter…
Big lies and elite deceit.

Same thing…throughout the ages.
Same words out of different lips.
False hopes…on empty pages…
Crash course with a truth eclipse.

And it all seems helpless, hopeless
In a world that’s full of brokenhearted,
Reckless, faithless,
From the ones still here and the dear departed.
When was all this madness started?
When we began to flee
From responsibility.

I saw the spotlight lifted.
Dark days covered all the hearts.
Don’t know when the whole thing shifted.
Who cares once the damage starts.

I wrote a sad life story.
Just words one could soon forget.
Learn from this allegory
“Too late” hasn’t happened yet.   © Tony Funderburk 2014  (1/14)

Forgiveness is divine and I'm choosy with mine

Forgiveness is divine. And I’m very picky where I give mine. And that’s biblical by the way.

Yeah, it’s in the Bible. So forgiveness is divine. But not everyone gets it..

Nope. You’re not supposed to forgive everybody? It’s true. And that’s in the Bible, too. So that’s how you can know it’s true. The only one who has the brain power and authority to offer forgiveness to everybody is God. And as you already discovered, if you’ve been paying attention to my stories, you and I are not God.

I shared some insight on this with kids a few years back. This is what I said…

Here’s a secret, that’s not a secret.

Even God doesn’t forgive everybody. Uh-oh! Does that sound right? Well, it’s true. He makes sure forgiveness is available to anyone who wants it. But here’s the key. You gotta ask for it. Anyone who asks God for forgiveness can get it from Him. Now you know how to forgive and be happier. Right? Wanna know more? OK.

There’s a place in the Bible where it says you need to “be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another.” It sorta sounds like you’re just supposed to do it, no questions asked. Right? But it’s important to read the very next 7 words. They say, “even AS God in Christ forgave you“. So you’re supposed to forgive others the way God forgave you. Do you remember what you had to do for God to forgive you?

Yep, that’s right. You had to repent and ASK.

So, if somebody does something wrong to you, it’s a good idea to let them know what they did that hurt you. Maybe they didn’t even realize they had done it. That’s why it’s good to go right to them and tell them. Then, you know what they should do? They should ask you to forgive them. And if they ask, you should forgive them. That’s how God, through Jesus, forgives you.

Ain’t that cool? When you do things God’s way, they can work so much better. When you choose to do things your own way, you can get mean, bitter, mad, and downright evil. Not cool. Wouldn’t you rather be happier instead of meaner? Yeah, me too.

How about it? Do you think you could learn how to forgive someone today? The way God forgave you? Try it out and I think you’ll see how it’s a better way to forgive. When you do, let me know.

And here’s a rhyme to help you remember…

Learn how to forgive and be happy
Knowing it’s what God wants you to do.
Don’t go through your life being snappy
At the ones who love and cherish you.
Learn how to forgive and be happy.
It’s a way to make the good Lord smile.
Share this good idea with everybody.
Forgiveness is what makes this life worthwhile.

Sound therapy for healing sounds very appealing

Using vibrational sound therapy for healing sounds pretty darn appealing to me. Especially since I’ve been interested in and connected to sound all my life. In fact, I recall how fascinating it was when I first discovered tuning forks. Because it wasn’t just sound to me. The vibration and tone were like a secret connection to God.

But is it logical to think you could use vibrational sound therapy for healing?

Well, a few years ago I read something interesting about a French composer/biologist and another French biologist. They conducted a laboratory study using low-volume (about 30-40 decibels) acoustic sound on uterine cancer cells. And they pointed a camera on the petri dishes where the cells were.

The results, according to them, and caught on camera, showed how the sounds disintegrated the cells.

And you’ll never guess what they said the most effective and interesting sound was. So, I’ll just tell you. It was a human voice. And they said a human voice would “explode” those cancer cells in only nine minutes.

After that, those two French biologists worked with a couple of women diagnosed with breast cancer. And they had some more amazing results. They documented their treatment and wrote how “the cancer cells show evidence of cell nuclei incapable of maintaining their structure as the sound wave frequencies attack the cytoplasmic and nuclear membranes.”

They came up with a theory that “tumor cells aren’t in resonance with the human body.” Which means it appears uninterrupted resonant sound can destabilize and destroy cancer cells.

Wow. The right sounds might be good cancer fighting tools.

Even if it doesn’t work for everyone, it’s certainly a much safer first choice than chemo and radiation.

And sound and light are much more likely to develop hope than those harsh treatments. Watch and listen to this video and see what it does for you if anything. I don’t have personal experience with sound therapy healing anything in my body. But it makes total sense that God would put healing properties even into sound. Because He is the ultimate brilliant designer. And His original design for us was a perfect world where we could remain perfectly healthy and live forever.

Watch and listen to this video and see what it does for you if anything. And let me know your results.

Could good vibrations help you heal
In some ways medicine cannot?
Well, if they can, it just makes sense.
Sounds come from God’s own train of thought.

Sun don't rise so better open up your eyes

Scientific curiosity led to the discovery that the earth revolves around the sun. So, scientifically speaking, the sun don’t rise. But you and I know we were created by a living, loving, artful God. So, we know we can say the sun does rise. Every day. Because you and I understand the difference between literal and metaphorical.

Yeah, don’t tell me the sun don’t rise.

Because I’ve seen it with my own eyes. For over seven decades.

A sunrise is a metaphor, an allegory, or even a simile. It’s how your creative mind “sees” things. Either as you’d like them to be, or as they appear to be. In both cases you get a sense of the imagination forged into your spirit. God didn’t have to give  imagination. He could have just designed you to see whatever He preferred you to see. Or to perceive only those things necessary for survival.

But God loves. Not that ridiculous worldly love that’s here today and gone tomorrow. His love is  real and enduring. And your imagination is intangible proof of His love. You can think with logic and reason. But you can also imagine and create. You can soar into the skies, dive into the depths of the oceans, paint rainbows in the leaves of trees, and even rise above whatever physical limitations you might have.

But those limitations will never make you say the sun don’t rise.

Where will you let the gift of imagination take you today?

When the sun does rise,
And it surely will,
We will run straight to
The aroma hill.
We will pluck one rose
From its thorny vine,
And refresh our lips
With a sip of wine.
We will find delight
In the sweet bouquet
Of this flowered hill…
Of this brand new day.
It will be a feast
For the nose and eyes,
And it all begins
When the sun does rise.

No rhyme or reason or need for appeasin'

Through the course of my life, as a poet, I’ve written lots of pieces with no rhyme or reason to them. Well, I guess I can’t say no rhyme. Because I like the poetry to rhyme. But it’s a figure of speech meaning I just wrote them to have fun writing them. There was no underlying or covert motive. Just pure enjoyment.

And that’s exactly how the poem I’m about to share with you came to be. I read an article that used the word homunculus. And I hadn’t heard that word before. So I looked it up. And that was all it took to motivate me to write a short story rhyme with homunculus in it. But I decided that it wouldn’t be the focus word for rhyming. In fact, because of something else, I read in that article I decided to use words that rhyme with swoosh.

If you’re not into quirky poetry, this might not be your cup of tea (or coffee, or hot chocolate, or whatever). But if you can appreciate fun for fun’s sake, and the inner workings of a brain designed by our creative God, maybe you’ll get a kick out of this one for…

No Rhyme Nor Reason

The light revealed the interstice,
Through which he would debouch.
This slender, blue homunculus,
Who wore a red tarboosh,
Was undeniably annoyed
As he tied his babouche
And straightened up his sweater
Made of ibex shahtoosh.
He blinked three times and ran to catch
A burgundy barouche.
And once inside he opened up
His journal and cartouche
To write a sonnet of his love
For Rosalinda Ruesch
And her delectable dessert
Of citrus croquembouche.
And now you have enjoyed one tale
Of Lazlo Link Latouche.   © 2022 TF
