It’s Sunday morning. So, here’s an obvious question. What do you call it when spirits play ball with a walrus head? Oh wait. Nix that question. What I meant to ask was, what do you call it when supernatural maidens take dead warriors into the afterlife. Never mind that last question. It sounds a little bit too mystic. Try this one. What do you call it when solar winds bombard nitrogen and oxygen molecules with lots of energy? Yeah, NOW I see your face light up. Because you know I’m probably talking about an aurora borealis ring. Good for you. Gold star for enthusiasm.
But I’m gonna focus on the borealis ring part.
Because it’s quite a phenomenon. But, actually, phenomenon might not be quite the appropriate word. Because its definition is sketchy: a fact or situation that is observed to exist or happen, especially one whose cause or explanation is in question.
And I’m no scientist and I don’t play one on the internet. But I don’t believe the cause of the borealis ring, or any variation of the aurora borealis, is in question.
In fact, I already shared the broad view of how it happens. “Solar winds bombard nitrogen and oxygen molecules with lots of energy.” And not just nitrogen and oxygen.
And I believe the chemical composition of those elements, along with the enormous energy found in solar winds, are there because of the creative mind of God. I believe He delights in seeing us delight in such delightful things and borealis rings.
It appears to be that an Italian astronomer, Galileo Galilei, came up the name, Aurora Borealis, back in 1619. Aurora was the Roman goddess of dawn. And Boreas was the Greek god of the north wind.
But it was a Norwegian scientist who got back to reality.
Kristian Birkeland came up with theory that “electrons emitted from sunspots produced the atmospheric lights after being guided toward the poles by Earth’s magnetic field.” And his theory was proved to be correct. But not until after he died.
Now, regardless of the stupid mantra going around these days, “trust the science,” there is SOME science you CAN and SHOULD trust. Because it’s time-tested and proved to be true.
But even more important than that is how even the borealis ring is proof that a brilliant Designer came up with all this beautiful design. Of course, you shouldn’t take my word for it. Test what I say with what your eyes and ears can clearly see and hear.
And if you can prove God does not exist, or that evolution causes borealis rings, let me know. Otherwise:
Up in the land of the en-chan-ting,
God’s brilliant love, for us all, can bring
Bold light where the angels dance and sing,
The Dance of the Borealis Ring.
Stay tuned,
