What’s In A Name?

Just a few days ago I was thinking about all the dark sounding names for bands I see and hear nowadays. And I wondered why so many bands feel the need to be so dark and gloomy. But the other side of the spectrum is just as bad…all syrupy sweet and goofy.

Coincidentally I came across an article in the Washington Post online that talks about all the band names represented at this year’s SXSW music festival. For anyone who doesn’t know…that stands for South By Southwest music festival held about this time of year in Austin, Texas. More bands descend upon that city in one week than you’ll find in one place anywhere or anytime else.

And apparently bands are having a hard time standing out and being unique…at least when it comes to the band name. Check out this article about BAND NAMES.

So…I think maybe I stand a good chance at being at least somewhat unique if I just stick with my moniker: Tony Funderburk…singer/songwriter. I know it’s old-fashioned and a little challenging to spell…but…not too many others will copy it.
