I’ve got a bad attitude when it comes to bad attitude. And, yes, I know how that sentence looks and sounds. But the first bad is more along the lines of Michael Jackson’s song, “Bad.” and the second is more along the lines of Huey Lewis and the News’ song, “Sometimes Bad is Bad.”
How’s that for using songs to define a bad attitude?
Yeah, I liked it too.
Anyway…
For years I’ve also noticed a lot of bad attitude in the public as a whole. So many people demanding that someone else, or the government, or a corporation, or a courtroom give them what they deserve. Yeesh.
Alright, I’m gonna preach for just a minute. There’s a way you can have eternal life in Heaven, something you don’t deserve, by the way. Yeah, you can live in paradise with your Creator. Because Jesus, who is God the Son, came to earth and took on human flesh. This was about 2000 years ago. He lived about 33 years and suffered a horrible death. But He resurrected in only 3 days to show us He had paid for all the sins any of us would ever commit.
And the short sermon is over. You can take your fingers out of your ears or your hands off your eyes now.
Naturally (and I use that word for clarity and emphasis) if you don’t believe this information, you’re free to disregard. But if you do, I urge you to have the fullest life you can possibly muster. Do everything your heart desires. And pay no mind to any consequences, as long as you’re getting everything you want. And I urge you to do this because whatever time you have on earth will be the only time of any pleasure you’ll experience.
You’ll exist forever somewhere…
You’ll get what you deserve and be king or queen of your own universe of one (with no body and no spirit of life). Well, that’s one option. And here’s the second option.
You’ll live forever in paradise with your Creator because of His awesome grace. You don’t deserve it. But He freely gives it to anyone who wants it. If I were you, I’d choose the second option. Heck, I’d even choose it if I were me. And I don’t think it’s a bad attitude to feel that way.
Here’s how the whole notion fit into a song by my favorite songwriter:
Give Me What I Deserve
You gave me life…
Gave me love, and gave me freedom.
You took my sins…
And You nailed “˜em, and You beat ‘em…
‘Cause this person who you bought never had the nerve.
So I’m glad that you did not…
Give me what I deserve.
You gave me hope,
Gave me bread and living water.
You gave your blood…
When I led you to the slaughter.
But you never even fought or let your focus swerve.
And I’m glad that you did not…
Give me what I deserve.
Lord, don’t give me…what I deserve.
If I stand in the middle of the road,
Nudge me to Your side.
Lord, don’t give me…what I deserve…
‘Cause I’m the reason and the cause
Why Jesus died…But then He rose again!
You gave me joy…
Gave Your word you’d leave me never.
You gave Your life so that I could live forever.
And on this earthly azure dot I can choose to serve.
So I’m glad that you did not…
Give me what I deserve.
