We do it all for love
I was sitting by a lake, in Texas, after a very difficult day, when I wrote a song called, “All For Love”.
It was a fall day…my favorite time of year no matter where I am…and the wind was blowing gently through my Toyota pickup window. I was enjoying a cold Pepsi and thinking back over the events of the day. They hadn’t gone well. And they seemed like a repeat of so many similar days.
I wondered “what’s it all for? Why go through these things? What in the world am I thinking staying in this situation…dragging myself through the mud?”
Then…it hit me.
It’s all for love that we do anything worthwhile. It’s the greatest gift of all and the only true reason any of us exist. It flows from God, and it drives the whole universe. And it’s oftentimes the most incomprehensible force. I thought about how odd that is…something we need so much…and want so much…yet, it can be so elusive.
Later that night I was sitting by a campfire and looking up at the stars in the expansive Texas sky. And the troubles started melting away in the flickers of the flames. I felt the driving force of God’s love and the warmth of the fire, and that got me started. So, I grabbed my pen and notebook and wrote some lyrics. Here they are…
