A Little and a Lot
Sometimes they can be the same thing
Have you ever met someone whose needs were completely met with almost nothing? I met someone like that way back in 1978. She told me how she’d just like a small, private island and live off the local plants and what she could catch in the sea. It sounded so intriguing I had to write a song about it. That’s what I did. If something sounded cool, or interesting, or off my beaten path…I’d write a song about it. I’ll share the lyrics to “A Little and a Lot”, and you can see if the young woman in the song reminds you of anyone.
A Little And A Lot
She likes to sit and watch,
Watch everything around her.
She knows enough of life
That not much can astound her.
She is a friend to me,
And I haven’t known her long.
We have some common ground,
When she listens to my song.
She wants to own an island
And live off the lazy sea,
And I can understand her
‘Cause she feels the same as me.
In time, I hope her plans come well within her reach.
I hope she finds herself sunning on her private beach.
‘Cause she only wants a little,
And it really means a lot,
And I know that she deserves it,
Though she tells me maybe not.
She likes to sit and watch…
Watch everything around her.
